Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday called and held a conversation with a distressed farmer after a video of him went viral on social media platforms in which he was seen desperately attempting to shield his produce from a torrential rainfall in Maharashtra.
The viral video starkly illustrated the widespread losses farmers in several districts are facing due to unseasonal rains.

The farmer in the video, Gaurav Panwar, had brought his peanut crop to a market in Washim when the heavy rain began. As the downpour threatened to wash away his hard-earned harvest, a visibly helpless Panwar was seen trying to salvage it with his bare hands.
This poignant scene resonated with the Agriculture Minister, who reached out to Panwar and assured him of compensation for his losses.
Chouhan shared a video of their conversation on X, where the farmer expressed the significant losses he had incurred.
“It (the video) pained me. But, don’t worry. The Maharashtra government is very sensitive to the issue of farmers. I have spoken to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the state’s agriculture minister. I have spoken to the collector as well. Whatever losses have occurred will be compensated so that you and your family don’t face any trouble,” Chouhan was heard saying.

He further assured, “They will try to solve the issue by Monday… We are all with you.”
Panwar further told the minister that he was unwell after getting drenched in the rain.
Earlier, Maharashtra NCP (Sharad Pawar) president Jayant Patil also highlighted the distressing video and appealed to the state government for immediate relief and support for the affected farmers.
“The state is experiencing heavy unseasonal rainfall, with hailstorms reported in several regions. This has caused significant crop damage, and the meteorological department has predicted more rainfall in the coming days. I urge the government to provide immediate assistance to the affected farmers,” he had said.
