You don’t need to log in to a website or visit an EPFO office to access your PF information. Here’s how to check PF balance through a missed call.

For millions of salaried individuals in India, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is a vital part of their retirement savings. But while your employer contributes regularly to your provident fund, many subscribers are still unaware of how easy it is to check their EPF balance and last contribution details.

You don’t need to log in to a website or visit an EPFO office to access your PF information. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) offers convenient services that allow subscribers to check their EPF balance simply by giving a missed call or sending an SMS — at no cost.

However, before you can use these services, a few key requirements must be fulfilled.

Prerequisites for Accessing EPF Balance Services

To use the missed call or SMS facility, you must ensure the following:

1. Your Universal Account Number (UAN) must be activated.

Activation can be done through the EPFO unified portal (https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in).

2. Your mobile number must be registered and linked with your UAN.

The services will only work if the request is made from the mobile number associated with your UAN.

3. At least one KYC document must be linked to your UAN.

This could be your bank account number, Aadhaar card, or PAN. If none of these are linked, the service will not work.

How To Check EPF Balance Through a Missed Call

Once the above conditions are met, checking your EPF balance becomes very simple:

Step 1: From your UAN-linked mobile number, give a missed call to 9966044425.

Step 2: The call will automatically disconnect after two rings, and you will not be charged anything.

Step 3: Shortly after, you will receive an SMS containing the details of your last EPF contribution and your current provident fund balance.

This service is completely free and is available 24×7.

How to Check EPF Balance Through SMS

EPFO also offers an SMS-based facility that allows you to check your account details in a few seconds.

Step 1: Open the SMS app on your phone.

Step 2: Type the message in this format: ‘EPFOHO UAN’

Step 3: Send this message to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.

By default, you will receive the response in English. However, EPFO supports multiple Indian languages. To receive the message in your preferred language, just add the first three letters of that language’s name at the end of the message.

For example:

To receive the message in Telugu, type: ‘EPFOHO UAN TEL’

For Hindi, type: ‘EPFOHO UAN HIN’

For Tamil, type: ‘EPFOHO UAN TAM’

You can receive your PF balance information in following languages including English (Default), Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.
