Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a man allegedly assaulted an elderly woman at random in Melbourne’s southwest, knocking her unconscious.
Police say the 92-year-old woman, who relies on a walking frame, was outside a shopping centre on Douglas Pde in Williamstown at about 12.20pm Wednesday when she was approached by an unknown man.
CCTV footage shows the man, who was shirtless and wrapped in a blanket, approaching the woman on the street before lunging towards her.
Police allege the man struck the elderly woman to the head and chest and knocked her backwards.
The woman then fell to the pavement and lost consciousness, police said.
She was transported to hospital in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, though was “very distressed” by the incident.

The alleged offender was restrained by members of the public until police arrived, where he was arrested.
The 39-year-old man has since been charged with intentionally cause injury and was due to face Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
