Fremantle has overrun Collingwood in dramatic fashion to seal a six-point win and claim its fourth victory on the spin.

In a dour contest frequently marred by teeming rain at Adelaide Oval, the Magpies led by four points at three-quarter time before Fremantle’s Jye Amiss and Matthew Johnson kicked two clutch unanswered goals to snatch victory.

Justin Longmuir’s Dockers move to 4-1 and second on the ladder, while Craig McRae’s Collingwood (2-3) were left to rue chances to put the match away early in the final quarter of the 7.3 (45) to 5.9 (39) defeat.

“We did enough to win this game,” McRae told reporters after the match.

The Magpies’ effort was led by Nick Daicos (31 disposals), who returned from a corked calf and played brilliantly through discomfort despite coming under plenty of physical attention from Fremantle.

Collingwood’s defence was magnificent, with Billy Frampton keeping Josh Treacy goalless and Brayden Maynard doing the same to Patrick Voss.

“We defended the ground really well,” McRae said.

“We didn’t last week (against the Lions) … we’re improving parts of our game.”

Jordan De Goey copped a knee to the head from Fremantle’s Heath Chapman in a second-quarter marking contest, then later smacked the back of his head on the turf when he was pushed over by the defender.

He failed a head injury assessment and will miss next Thursday’s clash with Carlton.

Fremantle ruckman Luke Jackson (38 hit-outs, 17 disposals), was excellent, especially after half-time when he went one-out against Darcy Cameron and Oscar Steen, giving first use to Caleb Serong (24 disposals).

Fellow ruckman Sean Darcy failed a concussion test after he went head-first into Collingwood’s Ned Long in the second term and will miss next Sunday’s derby against West Coast.

Fremantle defenders Jordan Clark (28 disposals) and Luke Ryan (25) were excellent along with Alex Pearce (10 intercepts).

Collingwood dominated the first term but was wasteful going into attack, scoring just 1.2 from 18 inside-50s to keep the Dockers in the contest.

Fremantle struggled to get its ball movement going and trailed by eight points at half-time.

The Dockers came out of the break with vastly improved intensity and Isaiah Dudley brought the crowd to life with the opening goal.

Two more majors to Amiss and Dudley handed Fremantle a nine-point lead in a flash.

Angus Anderson, making his senior debut for the Magpies, steadied the ship with his first goal, before Jack Crisp put Collingwood back in front at three-quarter time.

Collingwood blew multiple chances and Amiss’s thumping second goal in the rain cut the margin to a point, before Johnson kicked a goal on the run to put Fremantle in front.

Treacy went behind the ball and took a contested mark under pressure to rule out a late Collingwood attack, before Fremantle held on for dear life.

By Luke Pentony

Craig McRae admitted he was a “bit frustrated” after the Magpies walked away without the win.

But speaking to reporters after the match, McRae was satisfied with the effort the Magpies showed after losing to the Lions by 54 points in their last start.

At least our DNA was on show … we just didn’t manage our moments at the critical times.

McRae found positives in the Magpies’ performance on the defensive side of the ball.

We defended the ground really well. We didn’t last week…we’re improving parts of our game.

But … McRae considered this a match the Magpies let slip through their fingers.

We did enough to win this game.

‘Never in doubt’

Josh Treacy takes a mark against the Magpies.

We highlighted Josh Treacy’s clutch mark inside the Dockers’ defensive 50 late in thye final term.

This is what Dockers skipper Alex Pearce had to say about his teammate’s effort when he spoke with the Seven Network.

Never in doubt, the big fella. We’ll make a defender out of him yet.

It was fantastic for him to come back, such a vulnerable position.

He’s done a lot of work on that, that’s his role late in games to come back and suit up for us … for him to own the moment like that is fantastic. I’m so proud of him.

Do the Dockers have a shot left?

By Luke Pentony

Six minutes on the clock — can the Dockers overhaul the Magpies?

There’s enough time to eat away at the Magpies’ seven-point lead, but the Dockers need to raise the intensity.

They’ve barely fired a shot this quarter.

Making his senior debut, Anderson shows nerves of steel to kick from a set-shot deep inside the attacking 50.

Daniel McStay had marked just inside the boundary line before playing on and finding Anderson on his own.

Anderson did the rest …
