He’s the legendary caller that we welcomed into our lounge rooms with pleasure for decades. Now, The West Australian’s readers pay tribute to the great Dennis Cometti.

“Beautiful melodious voice GOAT Dennis you were a legend and a gentleman never to be forgotten rip.”

JC

“What an absolute legend. The greatest caller there’s been and outside of football did a lot for people. Funded a heap of local bands in Perth as he loved music. You’d never know because he never told anyone. Truly a great loss.”

Troy V

“Rest in peace, Dennis, you were an absolute ornament to sport. My sincere condolences to your family, friends and colleagues.”

Pete C

“What a contribution to this Nation, Thankyou . Thinking of his family at this time, and thankyou for sharing him with us all.”

Frances H

“This one makes me misty optically.”

Tony C

“His take on the game was mesmerizing for me. His clarity at delivering instructions to the team resonated strongly with me. And the players always responded to his lead, particularly when he threw his body into high risk (read : crazy) football situations, something he did often. Denis was a standout player in the Sunday League, even though it was probably towards the end of his playing days.”

Noel Y

“Dennis Cometti was eloquence personified. The sporting public of Australia were fortunate to have enjoyed his calls & commentaries as long as we did.”

“One of the greatest sports commentators of all time. Dennis’s golden voice will remaîn in my memory for a long time. RIP”

Robert D

“One of the great men. Went out of his way to share his knowledge, whilst remaining humble. Worked relentlessly with his planning prior to events and the last of the old ABC broadcasting legacy. Rest well Dennis and know the thousands you have influenced and the lives you have touched.

Andrew W

“Words are inadequate there are not enough superlatives in the dictionary.RIP.”

“All commentators strive for that. Dennis, in my opinion, nailed it. Vale.”

Kim S

“His commentary was indeed ‘centimetre perfect’. RIP Dennis.”
