Celebrity hairstylist Amit Thakur shared a video where he talked about whether DIY hair masks are beneficial in the long run.

Amit Thakur revealed whether eggs and curd are solely helpful for making hair smooth and luscious.

Who doesn’t dream of glossy, healthy hair that elevates their glamorous look? But is it just about using the right shampoo or conditioner? Celebrity hairstylist Amit Thakur, known for working with icons like Nita Ambani, Priyanka Chopra, and Alia Bhatt, recently shared his expert insights on achieving luscious locks. His signature styles often make waves as celebrities flaunt their flawless hair at public appearances. In a video posted on his official Instagram handle, the hairstylist revealed the key ingredients and techniques behind stunning, healthy hair. He also addressed the age-old question—are curd and eggs enough for complete hair nourishment?

In an Instagram post, Amit Thakur talked about the benefits of the age-old remedy of using eggs and curd for the show-stopping, enviable strands. The DIY hair mask has been used for generations, with people believing in its ample benefits. Additionally, we have seen how an egg and curd DIY mask can instantly transform dull, damaged hair into shiny, voluminous locks. However, the hairstylist mentions in the video that although eggs and curd provide natural shine to the tresses, the complete nourishment with this is just temporary. “DIY masks might give your hair a quick boost, but when it comes to lasting results, it’s all about the right ingredients,” read the caption of his post.

Further, in the video, Thakur talked about the limitations of DIY masks. He said that applying eggs and curd to your hair forms a temporary coating over the strands, which is just an illusion of healthy hair. Soon after the coating gets washed away, the shine is also lost. He said, “Applying curd and eggs to your hair is not going to make your hair healthy. While curd is rich in lactic acid, it helps in balancing the hair’s pH, making it more conditioned. It does not reverse hair damage.”

He continued, “Eggs have protein, vitamins, and fatty acids. But when you apply them externally to your hair, the protein molecules are too big to penetrate inside the hair shaft. It coats your hair, which can make it look smoother and shinier, but it does not help make a lasting difference on the hair.”

So, what works in providing complete nourishment to the hair shaft?

The hairstylist elaborated, “Products that have good formulations. Products that use active ingredients derived from all these natural foods, like curd, egg, and rice, can do wonders for your hair.”

In his older videos, the hairstylist suggested nourishing oils like argan oil, coconut oil, or castor oil that can easily penetrate the hair shaft. Ingredients like keratin or protein treatment help restore damaged hair, while vitamin-rich products boost hair growth and provide lasting volume, and hydrating masks provide long-lasting results.

Instead of the superficial shine, according to Amit Thakur, the right combination of hydration, protein, and vitamins can nourish the scalp, strengthen the hair follicles, restore elasticity, and reduce hair breakage to promote natural growth.
