A popular birthday candle has been recalled over safety fears and could possibly be permanently banned in Australia.

The popular candle is shaped like a lotus and blooms with multiple lit flames, and continues to burn for several seconds.

Sold by Discount Packaging Warehouse, the candle was available in multiple colours and sold internationally between March 1, 2024 and April 11, 2025.

It has now been recalled by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) amid fears the product does not comply with button battery safety standards.

“The button/coin batteries may not be adequately secured and may be accessible by young children,” the recall statement read.

According to the ACCC recall, the product fails to include the required safety warning information.

The inadequately secured button battery could put young children at risk of choking, severe internal burns, or death should they have access to the batteries, swallow them or place them inside their bodies.

“Severe or fatal injuries can happen in two hours or less,” the statement read.

The ACCC cites further risk of serious injury, death or property damage if the candle holder catches fire.

The candles could become permanently banned, along with other combustible candle holders, which ignite when exposed to a burning candle and have been deemed a fire risk by the ACCC.

“This product may be subject to the permanent ban on combustible candle holders,” the recall read.

Products placed on the banned list must not be supplied in Australia.

Those who have purchased the candles have been urged to stop using the product immediately and keep it out of reach of children.

Customers have been encouraged to destroy and dispose of the product, and can contact Discount Packaging Warehouse to arrange a refund.
