Australia’s two-time defending champion Nicola Olyslagers has claimed the silver medal in the women’s high jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland.

Olyslagers, the 2024 and 2025 world indoor champion, cleared 1.99 metres to share the silver with Serbia’s Angelina Topić and Ukrainian Yuliia Levchenko.

Ukraine’s Olympic champion and world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh won gold with a clearance of 2.01m.

“To have four women jump 1.99m on their first attempt, I don’t remember the last time I was a part of something like that,” Olyslagers said.

“I wasn’t feeling in my absolute championship best shape, so I just thought to myself, ‘What have I got to give today?’. I just realised it was just the simple joy of jumping.

“I’m really stoked to equal my indoor PB and this medal means a lot, because it showed me that there is so much more to give even when everything isn’t perfect.”

Olyslagers’s Australian teammate Eleanor Patterson (1.93m) finished in seventh place.

Among other events, Australia’s Olympic silver medallist Jess Hull was second in her heat of the women’s 1,500 metres.

Hull ran 4:12.45 to qualify for Monday morning’s final AEDT.

Her teammate Adam Spencer (3:40.79) moved through to the men’s 1,500m final after placing second in his heat.

Australia’s Peter Bol and Hayley Kitching advanced from the heats in the respective men’s and women’s 800m.

Bol won his heat in a time of 1:45.87, while Kitching was second in her preliminary after clocking 2:00.09.
