Kolkata Car Accident: At least one person was killed and eight others were injured after a private car ploughed through a marketplace and rammed the crowd in south Kolkata on Sunday, police officials said.
According to the media reports citing the police, a TV director from the Bangla industry, in an intoxicated state, allegedly drove his SUV into the crowded market in Kolkata’s Thakurpukur area. The Police have arrested the director, identified as 35-year-old Siddhant Das.

As per Times of India report, the accident took place on Sunday when Das, driving from Bakrahat and heading towards Gariahat, lost control of his SUV and ploughed through the bustling market in Thakurpukur.
Police confirmed that Das was drunk at the time of the accident and four bottles of liquor were found in his vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle rammed into multiple two-wheelers and pedestrians before finally halting after colliding with a parked scooter.
“The accident occurred around 9:30 AM when the vehicle lost control in the overcrowded Thakurpukur Bazar on Bakrahat Road, knocking down nine pedestrians,” the official told news agency PTI.
Aminur Rahman (63), a vegetable vendor, suffered multiple injuries in the accident. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Residents of the area erupted into fury, vandalised the car, dragged Das, the man at the wheel, out and thrashed him till police arrived at the spot and rescued him. Cops also arrested a woman travelling with Das in his vehicle. Another woman, who was seated on the back seat, fled, the police said.
“The vehicle has been seized and will be sent for examination. The driver has been arrested and will be produced in court on Monday,” the official said.
