As an expanded group of operators relocates to new workplaces on Brisbane’s northside, almost half of triple-zero calls for an emergency do not need an emergency response, according to staff.

Every morning, about 3800 calls are made to Triple Zero, with about 1800 being diverted to the Queensland Ambulance Service Clinical Hub, which is located at the Emergency Services Complex in Kedron.

More than double the power of the gateway is the result of the upgrade, which will be unveiled by the Queensland federal on Tuesday, in a bid to reduce the number of unwanted hospital visits and relieve pressure on crowded crisis departments.

The COVID-19 epidemic influx of people was the focus of the initiative’s launch in 2020, which was intended to assist hospitals and first responders.

In the last five years, a recent analysis of public hospital performance data revealed a 4.5 % increase in the state’s demand for emergency department services.

The hub at Kedron was about “providing the right care at the right time,” according to Sandra Garner, director of integrated multidisciplinary care programs.
