Jagga Smith had to watch from the sidelines when Richmond generator Sam Lalor made his debut to the footy scene last month.

Carlton’s original number is today. Smith, the third pick in the draft, and Lalor, the man chosen with two picks in front of him at the end of 2024, may ultimately go head-to-head.

And neither of their instructors is eager to see who emerges victorious.

Smith, 20, had 27 disposals on album despite Carlton’s unsatisfactory defeat to Sydney in the opening round despite missing the entirety of his debut season after torn ACL in February.

Lalor, 19, scored two goals with 18 disposals in Richmond’s final round one victory over Carlton last year and showed signs of the forward-midfield dynamo he had become in 11 games before hamstring problems destroyed his 2025 career.

” Truly fascinating for Jagga- I’ve known Jagga for a while, and you certainly hate seeing younger kids get hurt,” said Richmond coach Adem Yze.

You can see them playing against one another, but when you get the chance to view them face-to-face, it’s going to be really exciting for both leagues.

“… He’s ( Smith ) undoubtedly going to pose a threat that we must be concerned about.

After pinch-hitting past season, Yze flagged Lalor may be spending more time in the middle, probably in a 60-40 forward-midfield split.

In the middle, the strong, powerful Lalor and the less strong, quick-moving Smith are most likely to square off against one another.

Coach of the Music, Michael Voss, said,” I don’t think I want Jagga at entire up.”

I hope we can see it through the midst. Both of them are talented young people.

They are two very different people, one is very power-oriented, and the other is Jagga, who we felt was the best choice for us.

” I’m sure Richmond aren’t let down either. We’re certainly hoping we can prevail, so I’m sure they’ll cross roads.

Despite neither group making finals the previous year, the game is expected to attract a sizable audience.

Carlton and Richmond deserved the year opening, Yze doesn’t concede.

He said,” It’s such an important activity and such an exciting activity for both clubs.”

A rounded one matchup against Carlton is one you really want to play, actually talking to people who aren’t playing right now.

” So I think it speaks for itself, for the people, for our club, for their team, and for the bracket, to average an 80, 000-crowd every year for how many years we’ve done that,” he said.
