As he tries to be released on bail while fighting bribery charges, a high-profile home mogul from Melbourne learned he may spend the night behind bars.
Police allege that Paul Fridman, 50, engaged a covert foreign operator to threaten Ash Boyd and Nigel Givoni, two of his former business partners, to demand payment of more than$ 20 million.
‘ Mr. International’, the operator, was allegedly promised 10 % of any money the pair allegedly took.
Police allege that two victims received threatening messages demanding payments of$ 20 million and$ 250, 000 in February of this year. On Saturday, a house in Glen Iris was set on fire with Molotov cocktails.
On Monday night, Fridman’s attorney argued that he should be granted parole after making a video website appearance in Melbourne Magistrates ‘ Court.

His attorney, Morgan Brown, argued that because authorities had no proof of information exchanged between Fridman and Mr. International, it couldn’t be clearly established whether Fridman had ordered the war or whether he had any knowledge of what Mr. International had planned.
The court responded,” I think that may be a little naive, I’m no persuaded by that statement.” He claimed that Mr. International’s steps were intended to “persuade these people to give your customer lots of money.”
Brown subsequently switched sides and asserted that Fridman has a prima facie case for loan and that he is a father of two. She claimed that despite his previous criminal record, the claims weren’t relevant to the current allegations and that this would be his first time being detained.
On Tuesday evening, the hearing may remain.
As the investigation progressed, Fridman initially appeared hopeless, but as soon as he learned that he would be remanded miraculously, he began to cry loudly. The magistrate’s film connection was disabled.
Authorities are continuing to look into Mr. International’s individuality, the court heard.
