For the second time in less than a week, Perth Glory have waved goodbye to an import, cutting their losses with Colombian forward Cristian Caicedo.
It comes as football director Stan Lazaridis admitted the winger, who made just three appearances for the club, did not fit their system after only signing him in September.
Caicedo, who was little known before his arrival, has not been sighted on the pitch since storming off after being substituted off late against Adelaide earlier this month — a game he started from the bench.
The 22 year-old attacker walked straight off the pitch and did not look coach David Zdrilic in the eye, instead heading straight down the tunnel.
Zdrilic said at the time Caicedo was withdrawn for defensive reasons, but did not pick him in his side again following his reaction.
Caicedo played just 117 minutes across his three games and his mutual-consent departure follows the club parting ways with Ecuadorian defender Luis Canga last Wednesday.
Lazaridis, who hailed Caicedo as a “livewire player who puts bums on seats” upon his arrival, admitted the move had not worked out.
“Unfortunately, Cristian didn’t fit the system that we want to play,” he said.
“The move hasn’t worked out for either the club or the player on or off the field and we’ve therefore come to an amicable agreement which allows Cristian to move on.
“He has handled himself very professionally during his short period with us and we would like to thank him for his service and wish him all the very best for the next stage of his football journey.
“We can now focus upon bringing in another player who will slot into our team.”
Perth’s final two imports, Anas Hamzaoui and Hiroaki Aoyama, have both struggled for game time after arriving at the club in the off-season, with Belgian left-back Hamzaoui currently injured and Aoyama having started four games but substituted off at half-time in each of those matches.
