With its release date locked, Tumbbad 2 is now stirring fresh buzz around its casting. The makers are exploring a major female addition to the sequel, with Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Nayanthara among the names under consideration.
The sequel to the 2018 cult favourite will see Sohum Shah return, alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Interest in the project has remained steady, especially after the makers confirmed its theatrical release for December 2027.

Makers eye ‘A-list female actor’
According to a source close to the development, the team is keen to bring in a prominent female star for a pivotal role. “The makers are looking to onboard a strong A-list female actor to expand the narrative. Names like Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Nayanthara are being explored. Discussions are ongoing, but nothing has been finalised yet,” the source said while speaking to Hindustan Times.
The move signals an attempt to broaden the film’s character dynamics as the sequel builds on the original’s dark, mythological world.
On Wednesday, the makers confirmed that Tumbbad 2 will release in theatres on December 3, 2027. The announcement came with a poster featuring statues of three figures, alongside the Devanagari tagline, “Pralay aayega” (apocalypse will arrive).
The project is backed by Pen Studios, led by Jayantilal Gada. Released in 2018, Tumbbad went on to earn a cult following over the years, with its 2024 re-release further boosting its popularity at the box office.
Director Adesh Prasad said the sequel aims to stay true to the original while pushing its scale and storytelling.

It was directed by Rahi Anil Barve, with Anand Gandhi serving as creative director, and written by Mitesh Shah, Adesh Prasad, Barve and Gandhi.
With a confirmed release date and casting discussions underway, Tumbbad 2 is steadily moving forward, aiming to build on the legacy of the original while introducing new elements to its world.
