A man has drowned after being swept from the rocks at a popular beach in Western Australia’s southwest.
Police said they were called to Indijup Natural Spa in Yallingup about 12.20pm on Monday, with reports a person had been swept into the water.
“Sadly, the man in his 20s was located unresponsive and was unable to be revived,” a police spokesman said.
“His death is not suspicious.”
The Indijup Natural Spa is a popular tourist spot where people often snap photos of the ocean while standing on the rocks.
Acting South West Superintendent Andy Elliott told the ABC the man was visiting from Southeast Asia.
“He had limited swimming abilities, and attempts to get the flotation devices to him were unsuccessful,” Superintendent Elliott said.
“The male drifted out to sea and out of view and, unfortunately, his body was later recovered deceased.”
Superintendent Elliott said while there were warning signs in place, the incident served as a reminder to remain vigilant around water.
“Whether you’re a tourist or a local, you’ve just got to respect the power and unpredictable nature of the ocean and take all the safety measures you can,” he said.
