Election officials claim that for the first time in nearly 20 years, the loyalists of President Mahmoud Abbas won the majority of the tribes in the Arab municipal elections in a city in the Gaza Strip work by foe Hamas.
The vote on Saturday marked the second votes of any kind in Gaza since 2006, and it was the first Israeli elections since Hamas ‘ cross-border assault on southern Israel, which started the Gaza war more than two years ago.

Hamas, which removed the PA from Gaza in 2007, did not officially select candidates there, and it boycotted the election in the West Bank, where Fatah’s win was widely anticipated.
Occupants and analysts were quick to point out that some candidates on one of the Ain al-Balah lists were well-versed in the action, making the ballot a possible indicator of assistance for the Islamist group.
The record, known as Deir al-Balah Brings Us Up, only won two of the 15 seats in the Gaza election, according to preliminary results.
Six votes were secured by the Nahdat Deir al-Balah record, which was supported by Abbas ‘ Fatah group and the PA, which is Western-backed. Coming of Deir al-Balah and Peace and Building, two different Gaza-based organizations that are not affiliated with either group, won the remaining votes.
Abbas supporters won the West Bank election, running unopposed in some seats, in a landslide.
Abdul Fattah Dawla, a spokesman for Fatah, noted that voters overwhelmingly voted in the West Bank’s recent provincial elections in 2022, praising their victory despite Israel’s continued hostility.
Israeli political analyst Reham Ouda said that by electing Fatah-linked individuals, electors appear to be seeking unlimited international support for provincial governance and a steady democratic transition that might go beyond the local level.
Some residents of Gaza have been displaced and focused on life, and much of Gaza has been reduced to wreckage as a result of the current war. Despite a peace in October, Israel has continued to launch attacks.
According to Chairman of the Central Elections Commission Rami al-Hamdallah, voter turnout in the West Bank was 56 %, while in Gaza it was only 23 %, while in the West Bank it was only 53 %.
Al-Hamdallah claimed that some of the ballot boxes and voting technology did not arrive in the area due to Israeli security regulations, but those difficulties were resolved.
Hazem Qassem, a Hamas spokesman in Gaza, downplayed the value of the vote findings, claiming that they had no bearing on larger national issues.
