Actor Dhanush has teased the much-anticipated sequel to the 2018- film Vada Chennai on Sunday. During the pre-release event for his upcoming film Kara, Dhanush sported a new ‘funk’ hairstyle, reminiscent of his look from the original movie, and announced that the sequel will arrive soon.

He said, “Before you ask, Vada Chennai 2 will arrive soon. It will come with a bang. To win, first we have to fight. It is not as far as you think. Infact, it’s closer than you think. Anbuvin Ezhuchi (the tagline of the sequel) will arrive in a big way.”

Previously, at the pre-release event of another film, Idli Kadai, Dhanush had revealed that filming for the crime drama sequel would commence this year, with a release planned for 2027. However, production has not officially started yet. The sequel will see the return of acclaimed director Vetri Maaran, with Ishari K Ganesh of Vels Film International producing the project.

Vada Chennai, a gritty crime drama set in North Chennai, depicted the power struggles between rival gangs in the area. It starred Dhanush as Anbu, a talented carrom board player who becomes embroiled in the gang conflicts. The film was both a critical and commercial success, gaining a cult following over the years.

Despite plans for a sequel being announced soon after the original’s release, progress was delayed due to other commitments by the actor and director.

In addition to Vada Chennai 2, Vetri Maaran is working on Arasan, a spin-off of the original film, featuring characters Guna (Samuthirakani), Senthil (Kishore), and Chandra (Andrea Jeremiah), and starring Silambarasan and Vijay Sethupathi. However, Dhanush’s character Anbu is not part of this spin-off.

Meanwhile Dhanush’s film Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja, is set to release on April 30. Alongside Kara, Dhanush has a busy schedule with several projects lined up, including D55 with Rajkumar Periyasamy, D56 with Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, and a collaboration with Mari Selvaraj.
