Two men were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a hedge trimmer was allegedly used in a fight that spilled onto a suburban street.

An argument exploded into violence at a property in Bellbird Park, about 40 minutes southwest of Brisbane’s CBD, at 2pm on Sunday.

The gardening tool was used in an altercation with a group including four men and several witnesses, police allege.

A 22-year-old Bellbird Park man is accused of punching a 25-year-old Ipswich man and pulling him into the residence’s garage as the fight erupted.

A 21-year-old Bellbird Park man, who was also in the garage, struck the 25-year-old four times in the torso with a bladed weapon.

Then, the 22-year-old man allegedly used a “garden hedging tool” to strike a 24-year-old Augustine Heights man in the chest and back.

“The group, including several witnesses, continued to fight, leading out into the street,” police said.

After police arrived at the scene, both victims – the 24 and 25-year-old men – were found nearby with critical injuries and taken to hospital.

The 22-year-old alleged attacker was treated in hospital for minor injuries and subsequently charged with two counts of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

The 21-year-old was later found and also charged with two counts of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Both men were held in custody and will appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.
