“There was a time I was very deeply in love. After that, I never wanted to go back to it. I don’t want to make anyone so important that they have the power to hurt me,” he said.

Expanding on relationships in general, he added, “I feel women move on. Some people are players – it doesn’t affect them.”

Adding a lighter note while speaking about how perception has changed over time, he joked, “Even before Dhurandhar, I used to get female attention. Now I just look like an uncle,” he said with humour.

Early struggles and first break in TV

Before stepping into acting recognition, Gera began his journey as a dancer.

“I started as a dancer – that was my source of income,” he recalled.

Shortly after relocating to Mumbai, he landed his first television project, Life Nahi Ladoo, where he played the lead role. “It was prime time, on a prime channel, and my first show itself. I feel extremely lucky,” he said.

He fondly remembered working with senior actors like Manoj Pahwa and Sanjay Mishra, describing the experience as warm and supportive. “We shot like a family. I was 23, and they treated me very well.”

Gera later appeared in shows such as Sanskriti, but his major turning point came with Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, one of the most popular television shows of its era. The project also introduced him to co-star Mona Singh, beginning a friendship that continues to this day. “That’s where I met Mona, and our friendship started, we’re still friends,” he shared.

About Dhurandhar: The Revenge

In Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Gera portrays Mohammed Aalam, a juice shop owner in Lyari who is secretly working as an Indian intelligence asset. His character mentors Ranveer Singh’s Hamza Ali Mazari (Jaskirat Singh Rangi), guiding him through a dangerous political landscape.

Set in Karachi’s Lyari, the film revolves around covert intelligence operations linked to major geopolitical and terror incidents, including the Kandahar hijack, the 2001 Parliament attack, and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The ensemble cast also features R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun in key roles.
