Carlton has blown another final-quarter lead, run down by arch-enemies Collingwood in a five-point thriller, placing further heat on Blues coach Michael Voss.
Leading by 18 points at three-quarter time at the MCG on Thursday, the Blues’ buffer evaporated within the first three minutes of the final term in familiar fashion.
After managing just six goals in the first three quarters, the Magpies suddenly found their scoring mojo with five majors in six minutes, through an inspired performance by Nick Daicos in his 100th game.

The Collingwood superstar produced one of the most memorable quarters of his already stellar career, dragging the Magpies to their third win of the season, 13.10 (88) to 12.11 (83).
But Carlton had an opportunity after the siren to secure a draw, with teenager Talor Byrne given a free kick about 40m out after being pushed to the ground by Josh Daicos.
Byrne narrowly missed the shot, Carlton’s second failed after-the-siren attempt in three seasons against the Magpies.
Nick Daicos had 14 disposals, four clearances, two goals assists and a crucial major of his own in the final quarter.

The 23-year-old Brownlow Medal favourite finished with 39 possessions to celebrate his milestone match in style and collect the Richard Pratt Medal as best-on-ground.
In an added blow for the Blues, spearhead Harry McKay suffered a head knock when he was collected by Harry Perryman’s attempted spoil in the last quarter.
McKay has a history of head knocks, having already suffered two concussions in four seasons.

Voss responds to Byrne’s post-siren miss
Here’s what Michael Voss said in relation to Talor Byrne’s miss after the siren.
“It’s understanding that it’s not all on the young man’s shoulders,” he says.
“He’s probably rehearsed that in the backyard 2,000 times.
“What was important was that our team supported him through that. You win together, you lose together.
“He was a pretty upset young man, but he needs to know he doesn’t need to own all that.”
McKay in concussion protocols after late blow
Michael Voss also confirms that Harry McKay was ruled out after going through a HIA late in the fourth quarter.
That means McKay will miss next week as he enters the AFL’s concussion protocols.
McKay has been concussed before, so Carlton will proceed with extra caution.
‘Shattered with his game’: Voss explains Hollands behaviour

There’s vision going around showing Elijah Hollands moving quite erratically during tonight’s game.
Michael Voss insists that nothing is amiss with the young midfielder.
“He’s pretty shattered with his game, to be honest with you,” he says.
“He was really disappointed with how he started the game, really upset, he feels like he let me down. He didn’t play a great game.
“We’ve just got to keep supporting people through those situations.”

Voss laments Blues inability to manage ‘moments’
Michael Voss certainly isn’t all doom and gloom despite his side coughing up another late lead.
“The game was fairly simple in the end,” he says.
“We had moments in the start of the third quarter, came out really strong.
“They have a moment in the same period of time in the fourth, and they finish their place.
“You can have a lot of good process and good method, but it can come down to small moments.
“One of the big cultural things is learning how to win.
“Even when you lose, you’ve still got to have winning behaviours.
“Winning is about not giving up, and the boys didn’t give up tonight.
“Everyone in that locker room is hurting, and I’m sure our supporters are hurting.
“It comes down to moments and we’re not finishing enough of them.”

A bizarre night in the books for Elijah Hollands
It’s not often that you see a player go an entire match without picking up a disposal, but that’s what Carlton’s Elijah Hollands has done.
To make matters worse, Hollands played 60 per cent game time, but incredibly did not record a single stat.

Another blown lead for Carlton in the final quarter
Where to now if you’re Carlton?
The Blues looked like they had this one in the bag, but it all unravelled at an alarming rate in the final term.
In the end, the Pies kick 7.1 to 3.2 to overrun the Blues, and it’s another coughed up second-half lead.
This one had the feeling of the North Melbourne game, where you could feel Carlton’s composure slipping as the game wore down to the end.
Is it tactical? Is it mental? Is it the brilliance of opponents? These are all the questions the Baggers will be asking.
It’ll be interesting to see what Michael Voss says in his presser tonight.

The night of the great unloved apparently
Hey Chris, it is the night of the great unloved, Collingwood winning the AFL and Manly winning the NRL…

Who had a multi on the Pies-Sea Eagles double folks?
FT: Collingwood 13.10 (88) defeats Carlton 12.11 (83)

Unbelievable stuff at the MCG and an unbelievable finish.
You’ve got to feel for Talor Byrne, who’s virtually in tears after missing his chance to be a hero, but he’s mobbed by his teammates.
Scott Pendlebury gets around to him as well and consoles him in the midst of all of Byrne’s teammates doing so, excellent sportsmanship.
I’ve got to say, Josh Daicos will be breathing a huge sigh of relief after being the man to give away the free kick with 15 seconds left from the boundary throw-in.
The story of this final quarter is Nick Daicos, who put in a virtuoso performance in his 100th career game.
I don’t think anyone in league history has played a better first 100 games, and Daicos showed why in the final term.
Daicos finishes with 39 disposals, nine score involvements, eight clearances and eight inside 50s to go along with a goal as well.
With the Pies on the canvas to start the final term, Daicos ramped it up, picking up 13 disposals, four clearances, four inside 50s and two goal assists in the final term alone.
Just insane stuff.
