The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has arrested six individuals in connection with the illegal online leak of Vijay’s farewell film, Jana Nayagan in high-definition (HD) print. The accused individuals are now remanded in judicial custody. The arrests followed a complaint filed by the film’s makers, KVN Productions, after the movie was shared across multiple digital platforms without authorisation.
Authorities have taken down over 300 links hosting the pirated content as part of ongoing efforts to curb the spread of the film online. On April 9, several clips from Vijay’s film, in some cases, the entire movie, were leaked on the internet. The Cyber Crime Wing issued a statement detailing the actions taken so far.

Following the complaint, a case was registered at the State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre. Charges have been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Information Technology Act, Copyright Act, and Cinematograph Act.
Special teams within the Cyber Crime Wing were formed to address various aspects of the investigation. These teams focused on identifying and blocking infringing URLs, conducting digital forensic analysis, and tracing those involved in uploading and sharing the pirated copies.
Investigations revealed that the accused used cloud storage platforms and shared drive links to disseminate the pirated content. Digital evidence was seized from the arrested individuals, who have since been remanded to judicial custody.
Efforts to monitor cyberspace continue, with authorities actively patrolling social media platforms, websites, and file-sharing services to prevent further circulation of illegal content. Blocking requests for more than 300 infringing links have been initiated, with further takedown actions ongoing.
The Cyber Crime Wing has also issued an advisory urging the public not to download, stream, or share pirated copies of Jana Nayagan or other copyrighted material. It warned that piracy is a cognisable offence and those involved will face stringent legal consequences.
Authorities also cautioned that strict action will be taken against individuals who knowingly promote or circulate pirated content through social media, messaging platforms, or websites. The investigation is ongoing to identify additional offenders involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, KVN productions issued a statement asking people to delete the illegal links immediately and warned of legal action. Actor Vijay is yet to react to the leak as he is busy with the political campaign for his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.
Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, is a commercial entertainer with political undertones. The film features Thalapathy Vijay, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj and Gautham Menon in key roles. With music composed by Anirudh, the film was slated for a grand release on January 9, but was postponed after the Central Board of Film Certification flagged certain scenes that could hurt the sentiments of the film.
Following this, the makers sought the court’s intervention to obtain the censor certificate. After a month-long legal standoff, the makers withdrew their petition and agreed to send the film to the revising committee. The board hasn’t certified the film yet.
