Perth Glory may have claimed a drought-breaking victory on Sunday evening, but it was an act of kindness and warmth from midfielder Nicholas Pennington which won the hearts of fans.

Despite a man-of-the-match-worthy performance in a 3-1 win over Macarthur at HBF Park, Pennington was hailed after he involved the team’s masseuse in a goal celebration just days after a heartbreaking passing in her family.

When Pennington fired Glory into the lead just after half-time, he wheeled away in celebration and headed straight to the bench to embrace the club’s long-time masseuse Sharon Bamber.

Bamber, whose father passed away mid-week, was quickly enveloped in a loving hug by most of the rest of the team as they chose to share the moment with her after a difficult week.

Post-game, Glory left-back Sam Sutton also ran over to Bamber to celebrate with her as his side celebrated a first win in more than two months.

Perth coach Adam Griffiths said he was proud of his players choosing to share that moment with Bamber.

“That’s the nature of this group. They are all very kind and caring people, that meant a lot to her and for me, it meant a lot to me as well.

“That’s a ‘ledge’ type of performance there by the boys.”

In a comment on Instagram, user bams.92 also paid tribute to Glory for honouring the passing of his grandfather.

“Thanks lads, means so much to her from the second family,” they wrote.

“Despite living on the other side of the planet he never left the house without a Perth Glory cap on his head. RIP Grandad.”
