Disgraced former prince Andrew has finally completed his move from the Royal Lodge, with one local labelling the stunning 31-room mansion a “ghost town”.
The man who was once second in line to the throne had his royal titles and privileges stripped by his brother King Charles in 2025 as pressure on Andrew increased following revelations about his relationship with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
As part of the humiliation, Andrew was forced to relinquish the 75-year lease he held on the Royal Lodge, the incredible 31-bedroom mansion he has occupied for more than two decades.
But it was only recently that he actually completed the move, taking months to move out amid claims of hoarding and growing discontent from the wider royal family.
A passerby told The Sun that the estate looked very different after the move.
“Royal Lodge was a hive of activity, even when Andrew was trying to lie low during the Epstein scandal, but now it’s just a ghost town,” they said.
The Royal Lodge, estimated to be valued at more than $57 million, was far from a ‘ghost town’ in February when police officers descended on the estate on Andrew’s 66th birthday to arrest him.
The disgraced former prince was detained at Aylsham police station for 11 hours on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
At the time, King Charles released a statement saying he was “deeply concerned” by his brother’s arrest.
“What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities,” he said.
“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.
“Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”
Andrew’s reluctance to move from the Royal Lodge caused friction within the family at Easter, when it was revealed his brother Edward has a “quite word” with him.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh had been forced to change their Easter weekend plans because Andrew was still living between two properties.
There has been no determination on the future tenants of the Royal Lodge. Andrew’s peppercorn lease was previously set to transfer to his daughters, princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, would eventually take over the home.
