After veteran actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, several prominent South Indian celebrities have strongly condemned the leak of the film Jana Nayagan on social media. These include filmmakers AR Murugadoss, Raghava Lawrence, Pa Ranjith and actor Karthi.

The unauthorised circulation of the film has caused widespread concern within the industry. The makers of Jana Nayagan confirmed that footage was leaked on social media and pirate websites, causing damage to the efforts and livelihoods of those involved.

Director AR Murugadoss wrote on X, “When a film gets leaked, it’s not just a movie — it’s dreams, sweat, and livelihoods. Please support films the right way—only in theatres and official platforms (sic).”

Raghava Lawrence emphasised the effort behind filmmaking, writing, “A film isn’t just an entertainment. It comes from the hard work, passion, and dedication of so many people. Piracy isn’t just illegal, it’s a direct disrespect to every artist and technician who brought the film to life. Those responsible for such acts should face strict action (sic).”

Actor Karthi described the leak as “hurtful to an entire industry” and called the act “unfair, unethical and condemnable.” He appealed to audiences to support the team by watching the film through proper channels.

Director Pa Ranjith expressed his disappointment, saying, “The leak of #JanaNayagan is truly upsetting and absolutely unacceptable. It’s heartbreaking for everyone involved in the film. Those responsible need to be identified and held accountable without delay (sic).”

Veteran stars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan also earlier condemned the leak. Rajinikanth called for strict action, while Kamal Haasan linked the incident to delays in the certification process. Other industry members, including Vishal, RJ Balaji and Suriya, have voiced their concern and urged audiences not to engage with the pirated content.

The production house, KVN Productions, has initiated a legal investigation and warned that piracy is a criminal offence under copyright laws.

Existing roadblocks for Jana Nayagan

The leak comes amid ongoing delays for the film, which has faced certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Originally scheduled for a theatrical release on January 9, the film’s release was postponed.

Although the makers agreed to approach the revising committee, the film has yet to receive certification. Industry sources have also linked the delay to Vijay‘s participation in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections as the chief of Tamika’s Vettri Kazhagam.

Jana Nayagan marks actor Vijay’s farewell film. The film is yet to receive certification.
