A German traveller had an unexpected visit to a government hospital in Gujarat after he revealed that he received treatment completely free of cost following a stray dog bite.

David Nebel, a German content creator who has been travelling the world for nearly nine years, shared a video recounting his experience in Surat, specifically in the Vesu area, where he was bitten by a stray dog during his trip.

In the video, Nebel explained how he immediately sought medical attention to reduce the risk of rabies and headed to a government hospital in the city. “Last night, I was bitten by a stray dog. I needed to take certain precautions to protect myself against rabies. So, I went to a government hospital here in India, and I was quite surprised. I received treatment there completely free of cost,” he said.

He went on to describe the process, pointing out that while he had to take multiple injections as part of the treatment, the overall experience stood out for its speed and efficiency. “I have to get four injections, which is a bit of a hassle. Nevertheless, I was truly amazed by how fast and efficient the service was, and yes, it is quite fantastic,” he added.

Comparing it to his home country, Nebel pointed out a key difference. “I am genuinely and pleasantly surprised. In my home country, foreigners do not receive free medical treatment in hospitals. So, this is truly impressive,” he said, praising the accessibility of public healthcare in India that caught him off guard.

He also mentioned that the hospital facilities were clean, and the care was prompt, which were factors that contributed to his overall positive experience.

The video gained traction on social media, drawing a wide range of reactions from users.

“In India, if you are bitten or scratched by a cat, dog, or monkey, always go to a government hospital,” one user advised, echoing the importance of timely treatment.

Another user took a comparative dig at healthcare costs elsewhere, writing, “In the US, your entire five years’ worth of savings would have been wiped out. Lol.”

Some comments also focused on safety and awareness. “Do not take this lightly; ensure you complete your full course of doses, especially if you were bitten by stray dogs. If you experience symptoms such as fever, dizziness, etc., please return to the doctors immediately,” one person wrote.

Others reflected on broader healthcare experiences. “I wish I could receive this same level of medical care in Germany. Due to long waiting times, I actually returned to India to undergo my surgery,” another comment read.
