A second woman has been charged alongside content creator midwife Oyebola “Bibi” Coxon over the death of a baby following an attempted homebirth in 2024.

A woman hired Ms Coxon, 36, to attend her home near Newcastle in October 2024 and deliver her child.

Police allege the midwife did not act upon “signs of complications and requests by the woman to attend hospital”.

Two days later, the mother was taken to John Hunter Hospital where the baby was delivered by emergency caesarean.

The baby boy died less than a week later.

Police arrested and charged Ms Coxon over the baby’s death last year. Her matter remains before the courts.

A second woman, aged 28, was arrested at Newcastle police station about 7am Friday.

She has been charged with manslaughter.

The 28-year-old was refused bail and is due to appear before a bail division court on Friday.

Ms Coxon, who studied midwifery at Southern Cross University, went viral after posting images of her giving birth to her twins at home in 2022.

After becoming a midwife in 2015, Ms Coxon worked in hospitals in Sydney and across Queensland.

She pursued a career as a social media influencer; however, since her arrest her social media profiles appear to have been removed.

Ms Coxon was granted bail in August last year on the condition she does not practice or educate anyone on child birth or pregnancy. She was forced to surrender her Italian and Australian passports.
