London: The country has deployed military vessels to stop Russian submarines from attacking cables and pipelines that have been in and around American waters for more than a month, according to its defense minister John Healey on Thursday.

Britain claimed that Russia attempted to perform the secret procedure in the High North coastal region, which is home to important shipping routes and important infrastructure like underwater cables, by using the distraction of events in the Middle East.

Healey claimed that the American forces and allies, including Norway, monitored and deterred Russian vessels ‘ malign activity, adding that the boats have since left the area and that underwater infrastructure has shown no signs of damage.

Healey, who disclosed the operation formally at a press conference, claimed that the intention was to reveal the activity to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

I declare,” We see you, President Putin,” to which I reply,”. We notice your exercise with our cables and pipelines, and you should be aware that any attempt to harm them will be duly tolerated and will result in significant harm, he said.

Our military forces “left them in no question that they were being watched, that their movements were no secret, as President Putin intended, and that their intended secret operation had been exposed.”

Russia’s London ambassador did not respond to a request for comment right away. Moscow has recently denied involvement in a number of instances where wires from Western nations were damaged.

Healey claimed that the Russian operation involved two specialist submarines from Moscow’s Main Directorate for Deep Sea Research ( GUGI ) and an Akula class attack submarine.

Healey claimed that they are designed to review underground infrastructure during peacetime and sabotage it in conflict.

Britain sent a ship, a assist ship, and a sea patrol aircraft to follow their movements after they discovered the Russian vessels entering international waters.

A P-8 sea patrol aircraft and a ship were likewise deployed, according to Norway’s defense government.

Healey claimed that the submarines were in the wider group of water known as the country’s” Exclusive Economic Area” and the waters of American allies rather than English territorial waters.

Following Donald Trump’s criticism of the British military’s actions in the wake of the US president’s criticism of Britain’s naval capabilities, which are now known as” toys,”

Healey made reference to that censure in his statement, claiming that deploying all of Britain’s defense assets there was not in the country’s best interests.

The greatest challenges are frequently invisible and silent, according to the author. And as defense demand rises, he said,” we must use our solutions to the fullest.”

Following a string of power wires, telecoms, and gas pipeline disruptions since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, NATO allies have increased their reputation in the North Atlantic and the Baltic Sea. The majority of accidents have been brought on by human ships carrying their anchors.
