Sarah Ferguson is facing a fresh wave of criticism after a story she reportedly told about late-Queen Elizabeth II left Prince William “furious”.

The former duchess has been under immense scrutiny over her personal connection to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

When the US justice department began to release the files in late 2025, emails attributed to Ms Ferguson saw her label the sex offender as a “pillar” in her life, a “brother” and “friend”.

Now, a claim she made back in 2025 is being looked upon with renewed criticism as the 66-year-old remains in hiding, though far from her exiled ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

While speaking at the Creative Woman Platform Forum last year, Ms Ferguson claimed the late-Queen had been communicating from beyond the grave via her beloved corgis.

“I have her dogs… so every morning they come in and go ‘woof woof’ and I’m sure it’s her talking to me,” Ms Ferguson told the forum.

After Elizabeth died in 2022, Mr Mountbatten-Windsor and Ms Ferguson inherited two of her corgis, Muick and Sandy. At the time, the divorced pair still lived at the Royal Lodge.

Nearly a year on from that May forum, an article in Woman magazine revealed that Prince William was left fuming after Ms Ferguson made those comments.

Emily Andrews, a royal writer, said William was “apparently ‘furious’ that she used this anecdote” at the event.

According to Ms Andrews, William was already annoyed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “gallivanting round the world on pseudo-royal trips” but his “real ire” remains reserved for Ms Ferguson’s “money-making schemes” involving the corgis.

It comes as William is attracting the label “ruthless” over his approach to dealing with royal drama.

The royal family has been marred with scandal for years, but it has only worsened since Mr Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his princely title on October 30, 2025.

The release of the Epstein files over the ensuing months eventually led to his arrest on February 19, just weeks after he and Ms Ferguson were booted out of the Royal Lodge.

After being questioned for 11 hours on the suspicion of misconduct in public office in relation to his time as trade envoy, the ex-duke returned to his exile at Sandringham.

After a stint at Wood Farm, Mr Mountbatten-Windsor was finally moved into the most humble lodgings of his life, Marsh Farm.

Elizabeth was widely thought to have had a soft spot for Ms Ferguson, who divorced her son in 1996 after 10 years of marriage.

Recent reports have indicated Ms Ferguson took advantage of the late-Queen’s generosity over the years, but many insist she was unaware of the former-duchess’ connection to Epstein.

Despite Ms Ferguson’s financial incompetence, and lies about the settlement reached after her divorce, Elizabeth was said to have still held a soft spot for her.

Royal experts have indicated that the former duchess’ ability to “bounce back” demonstrated both energeticness and resilience, qualities that Elizabeth valued.

Ms Ferguson was recently stripped of her honorary Freedom of the City of York Title.

She was understood to be holed up in Switzerland, but her current whereabouts is unknown, though inside sources say she will “sofa-surf” just about anywhere, save for the United States.
