Posters inspired by the Bollywood film Dhurandhar targeting Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and praising Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appeared across parts of Lucknow and Amethi, sparking a political row ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
The posters, spotted outside Amethi railway station and at key intersections, carry the slogan with a photo of Akhilesh Yadav, “Aap ko kya chahiye? Akhilesh ka Lyari raj.” (What do you want? The Lyari rule of Akhilesh). Another slogan says “Dhurandhar CM” with a photo of Yogi Adityanath.

The reference was to Lyari, a neighbourhood in Pakistan’s Karachi, once notorious for gang wars and violence, which was mentioned in Dhurandhar.
Put up by a group calling itself “Youth Against Mafia,” the hoardings juxtapose incidents of riots and violence during Akhilesh Yadav’s tenure as Chief Minister with the current government’s crackdown on crime under Yogi Adityanath.
Abhinav Tiwari, the group’s general secretary, said the campaign aims to raise awareness among Gen Z about past law-and-order situations in Uttar Pradesh.
“Through this poster, we want to create awareness among Gen Z about the past law and order situations in Uttar Pradesh, like the Muzaffarnagar and Shamli riots with the current scenario. We are a students’ organisation and don’t have any links with any other party,” he told news agency ANI.
The posters also feature names and photographs of the organisation’s office-bearers, including its executive president, general secretary, and Pratapgarh in-charge. Similar hoardings were reported from multiple locations in Lucknow on Tuesday.
The Samajwadi Party has condemned the campaign, calling it a political vendetta. Amethi district spokesperson advocate Rajesh Mishra alleged it reflected the ruling BJP’s “frustration and desperation,” claiming the public is aware of such attempts to mislead voters.
Amethi police station in-charge Ravi Singh said authorities had received information about the posters and a team was sent to the locations to investigate.
