Has any US president ever been this foul mouthed and this dangerous on the world stage?

When Donald Trump posted on Truth Social in April 2026, he did not issue a measured warning. He did not deploy the careful, calibrated language of statecraft. He wrote: “Open the F**kin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.” That was a sitting United States president. Writing to a sovereign nation. On a social media platform. On Easter Sunday.

To understand just how extraordinary this is, consider the company Trump now keeps in the history books of American presidential war rhetoric. Washington spoke of doing what you can, with what you have, where you are. FDR told a nation gripped by fear that fear itself was the only enemy. Reagan stood at the Berlin Wall and demanded it come down with three words that echoed across decades. These were men who understood that the weight of the presidency required a certain gravity of language, that words from the Oval Office carried consequences far beyond the moment they were spoken.

Trump understood none of that. Or simply did not care.

This was not an isolated outburst. In a separate Truth Social post, Trump wrote that he was killing Iranians and called it “a great honor.” He referred to Iranian leaders as “deranged scumbags.” In June 2025, speaking to reporters on the White House lawn about the conflict between Iran and Israel, he told the press on live television that both countries “don’t know what the f*** they’re doing.” A sitting American president. On camera. In an official context.

His Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, has been no less vicious. Hegseth announced, with what reporters described as barely concealed delight, that America was “punching them while they’re down, which is exactly how it should be.” He declared a policy of giving “no quarter” to the enemy, meaning no prisoners would be taken. Legal experts noted plainly that this is a war crime. Hegseth said it as though it were a selling point.

The question worth asking is: did any of this work? Did Iran tremble? Did the Strait of Hormuz reopen?

No. Iran did not flinch. Not once.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker accused Trump of reckless behaviour that was dragging America into its own living hell. Iranian state media mocked his language, calling it the behaviour of a “vulgarian streetfighter.” The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps dismissed his threats as “nonsense” and “nothing more than a wish.” And in perhaps the sharpest response of the entire conflict, an IRGC spokesperson turned Trump’s own signature phrase back on him, saying simply: “Hey Trump, you’re fired. You’re familiar with this sentence.”

Iran kept the Strait shut. The global economy felt it. And according to Britain’s Royal United Services Institute, America burned through so many missiles in a single month of strikes that replenishment will take five years. China, which controls many of the minerals needed to rebuild that arsenal, is watching with considerable interest.

Trump told the world America had “all the cards.” Iran, apparently, did not receive that message.

The same president who types “F**kin’ Strait” into a social media post.

Washington had gravitas. FDR had resolve. Reagan had statesmanship.

Trump has Truth Social, a foul mouth, and the nuclear codes.

That is not a punchline. That is the state of the world right now.
