Anthony Albanese has urged Australians to catch up with family and friends and take it easy on the roads over Easter, but made no mention of the fuel crisis that is cutting some holiday plans short.

The Prime Minister’s online Easter message urged everyone to “relish” the long weekend opportunity to recharge.

“For all Australians, this weekend will be a time of joy, generosity and togetherness,” he said.

“It will hopefully be a chance to catch up with family and friends, and maybe even take part in an egg hunt.

“If you do have the chance to take a break from work this weekend, take it safe on the road and relish the chance to relax and recharge. And, if you’re working, thank you for all you do to keep us safe, and to keep our country running.”

He also acknowledged the meaning of Easter for the 43 per cent of Australians who identify as Christian.

“Easter is a time to reflect on the meaning of their faith,” Mr Albanese said.

“The celebrations and services held across our country will remind us of the values of love and forgiveness at the heart of the Easter story, values which strengthen and enrich our families, our communities and our society beyond measure.”

During a prime-time televised address to the nation on Wednesday, the Prime Minister had urged the public to “enjoy your Easter” but refrain from taking more fuel than needed.

“Just fill up like you normally would,” he said.

According to the FuelWatch website, there are 16 service stations across WA that have no diesel and no petrol on Good Friday.

There are 29 WA service stations that do not have any petrol (counted as empty if they do not have either unleaded or premium unleaded) and 33 service stations that are without diesel (counted as empty if they do not have either diesel or brand diesel).

Premier Roger Cook posted his Easter message from the banks of the Swan River in South Perth.

“During these times of global uncertainty we can at least give thanks that we live in a beautiful city and an amazing State,” he said.

“I hope you have a restful weekend, happy Easter Western Australia.”
