Melbourne Storm forward Tui Kamikamica has left hospital to continue his rehabilitation after suffering a suspected stroke.
The Storm confirmed this morning that Kamikamica had been discharged from Royal Melbourne Hospital to “commence a period of inpatient rehabilitation”.
“It is anticipated he will be able to return to the club following his rehabilitation period and continue his recovery under the care of Melbourne Storm medical staff,” a club media release read.
Kamikamica experienced what the Storm described as a “medical episode” on Monday morning.
The Storm said he was receiving treatment for a suspected stroke.
Kamikamica played 25 minutes for the Storm in its 28-24 loss to North Queensland in Townsville on Saturday.
The 31-year-old, who captains Fiji at the international level, has been a consistent member of Storm coach Craig Bellamy’s first-choice team in the last few seasons.
He was a part of the Storm’s grand final side last year.
Kamikamica has made 142 appearances for the Storm since his NRL debut in 2017.
He has played 20 or more matches in each of the last three seasons.
The Storm is already without forward Eli Katoa for the season after he required surgery due to bleeding on the brain following a series of head knocks while playing for Tonga last November.
The club sits seventh on the ladder with a 2-2 (win-loss) record through four rounds.
They face the undefeated Panthers in Sydney tomorrow night.
