From now on, only biological female athletes will be permitted to compete in female category events at the Olympic Games, according to the International Olympic Committee ( IOC). The gender will be determined by a one-time gene-screening test.
The move properly forbids transgender athletes from competing in women’s events because it is set to apply to upcoming games and won’t be applied retrospectively.
Following years of fragmented legislation that resulted in some significant controversies, the IOC announced its new scheme on the safety of the adult category as part of its initiative to have a general rule for competitors in female wealthy sports.
The IOC advised that all athletes who wanted to compete in female type events at the Games would now have to pass an SRY protein test to determine their enrollment.
According to the IOC,” the presence of the SRY protein is fixed throughout life and represents very precise information that an sportsman has experienced adult sex development,” according to a statement from the IOC.

The IOC has long ruled out any general rules for transgender athletes competing in the Olympics, and in 2021 issued an order to international institutions to develop their own rules.
Kirsty Coventry, the new IOC senator, said her organization would take the lead in creating a consistent approach right away when she took over in June of last year.

As Los Angeles prepares to sponsor the 2028 Summer Olympics, US President Donald Trump last year forbidding trans athletes from competing in school, college, and professional competitions in the adult classification.
In February 2025, Mr. Trump signed an executive order stating that he would not help trans athletes to compete at the LA Games.
