A high-flying venture capitalist who once boasted hundreds of millions under management has been charged with assault.
According to The Australian, Clayton Larcombe, the former investment manager behind PAC Capital, fronted Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney on Friday charged with assault. He was granted bail without entering a plea.
The assault charge comes as Mr Larcombe’s financial affairs unravel on multiple fronts.
Corporate records seen by The Australian show liquidators have been appointed to his investment firm PAC Capital, with KPT Restructuring stepping in after moves to wind up the company.
The developments follow mounting legal pressure, including action launched in the Supreme Court of NSW by Clearwater Portfolio Management, which is seeking to wind up the business and is also suing Mr Larcombe personally.
Mr Larcombe had emerged as a bold, and relatively unknown, figure in funds management, promoting PAC Capital as overseeing as much as $500m in assets.
A significant portion of that came from the acquisition of Clearwater, a regional Victorian financial advice firm.
His Bellevue Hill mansion and Bowral estate were both listed for sale.
His assault matter remains before the court.
