Jetstar has announced a surprise new business move in response to growing demands for premium seats, with travellers now able to bid for seats to fly in luxury.
A fleet of brand new long haul Boeing 787s will get an upgrade for travellers who want to fly in style on international trips.
With the finishing touches of an interior refurnishing in Hong Kong almost at an end, the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner will feature 44 new Business Class seats and in-flight Wi-Fi.
As part of the renovations, the 787 cabin will double its capacity from 21 seats to 44 after growing customers’ demands for premium seating on longer, international flights.
Adjustable headrests and high dual USB-C charging points will also be installed, along with 38 inches of leg room to comfortably move on long flights.
The Australian low-cost airline will also allow eligible economy passengers to bid for an upgrade with cash, called BidCash, and plans to allow payment through Qantas points in the future.
Minimum payments will start from $180 on Jetstar’s Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City route today.
Jetstar’s Executive Manager, Customer and Digital Prue McKenzie said customers will be able to use the new bidding system for affordable access to premium seating on Tuesday.

“Our customers love a good deal and BidCash makes upgrading to Business simple, easy and affordable so they can takeoff more for less.
“With our first refreshed Boeing 787 aircraft entering service in the coming weeks, there’s never been a better time to bid your way into Business,” she said.
The rest of the 787 fleet will be upgraded over the next two years.
