He might be the most eligible bachelor in Hollywood right now, yet Aussie heartthrob Jacob Elordi’s decision to bring his mother Melissa as his plus one to the Oscars has won him even more admirers online.
The pair were spotted in a very cosy embrace as they posed for cameras on the red carpet ahead of the 98th iteration of the awards.
Elordi’s decision to bring his mum to the awards was fuelled by a boyhood promise he made to her about his dream of being nominated for an Oscar one day.
“I’m going to take Mum,” he told Jimmy Kimmel Live in January.
“I promised her when I was 15 that I would take her, so I have to honour that.”
And it was almost a night to remember for the 28-year-old Queenslander, losing out in the Best Supporting Actor award category to One Battle After Another star Sean Penn.
A win would have made Elordi the first Aussie male actor since Heath Ledger’s posthumous award in 2009 to claim an Oscar.
Fans of the imposing leading man were quick to point out the shared genes between mother and son as vision of the two spread through social media.
“See where he gets his height from,” one said.
“The way he looks at his mum 💕 🥹,” another commented.
One person added: “I’m loving him even more he’s a wonderful son!”
After popular roles in Euphoria, Wuthering Heights, and Saltburn, the leading man has become firmly entrenched in the industry’s upper echelon.
He was seen shaking hands and greeting fellow big-name Channing Tatum, with his mother following closely behind and appearing somewhat out of her depth at times.
She wore a sparkling, red and blue sequined frock.
With Frankenstein picking up three gongs on the night — claiming Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design — the pair were captured clapping and becoming emotional as they cheered on the teams that transformed the star into an unrecognisable monster.
Believed to be single, Elordi has previously been linked to influencer Olivia Jade Giannulli, model Kaia Gerber, actress Zendaya, and co-star of The Kissing Booth, Joey King.
