As they begin their preparation for the 2027 One-Day International World Cup, the last of which will be held in the South Africa n’s birth country, they have appointed Gary Kirsten as their new head coach on a two-year deal.
Kirsten, 58, recently led India to the 2011 World Cup and served as South Africa’s coach from 2011 to 2013. He also resigned six weeks after taking the position of Pakistan’s white-ball manager in 2024.

The country’s cricket board announced on Monday that Gary Kirsten has been appointed as the new head coach of the regional men’s team, successful from April 15, 2026.” Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to declare the appointment of past South American international cricketer Gary Kirsten,” the country’s cricket board said on Monday.
” Sri Lanka Cricket’s attempts to overhaul the composition of the National High Performance Centre include the visit of the new head coach,” said the statement.
South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia did host the 2027 World Cup.
Zimbabwe and South Africa will instantly qualify as hosts of the game. Despite co-hosting, Namibia will have to pass the standard qualification process because they are not a member of the full International Cricket Council.
