He has rarely participated in political programmes and has generally kept a distance from the party’s activities.
However, speculation about his political ambitions began to grow during the run-up to the Bihar Assembly elections last year when he appeared at a few public events supporting his father’s campaign and appealed to voters to back Nitish Kumar’s leadership.
More recently, he was seen offering prayers at the Mahavir Temple, Patna on the occasion of his father’s 75th birthday.
Party leaders say that after formally joining the JD(U), Nishant Kumar may gradually be assigned responsibilities within the organisation to help him gain political experience.
Some insiders indicate that he could soon begin touring different parts of Bihar to interact with party workers and strengthen grassroots connections.
