Mercedes driver George Russell finished the session with the fastest time ahead of qualifying.

What happens in the F1 qualifying session?
Formula 1’s qualifying session for the grand prix is split into three rounds — Q1, Q2 and Q3.
Q1, all 22 drivers participate in the 18-minute session. Drivers post the quickest lap time they can within that timeframe. The fastest 16 drivers advance to Q2, while drivers 17-22 will occupy those grid spots for the grand prix.
Q2 will run for 15 minutes, with the top 10 advancing to the final round. Drivers who finished 11th-16th will occupy those grid spots for the grand prix.
Q3 is a 13-minute shootout to determine the grid for the top 10.
