This Holi, Delhi residents can buy alcohol as usual. On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, liquor shops in Delhi are open because Holi is not marked as a dry day in the government’s January 2026 excise order. Earlier, Holi often came with a ban on alcohol sales, but this year, authorities have prioritised regulated access over restrictions. Licensed government and private liquor outlets, nearly 750 across the city, operate normally, subject to standard timings and rules.

DRY DAYS IN DELHI (JAN-MAR 2026)

Delhi’s excise department has notified only five dry days from January to March:

Holi is not on this list, meaning all licensed outlets are allowed to sell alcohol today.

SHOP STATUS TODAY

Both government and private liquor vends operate as usual on March 4. Sales follow standard rules and store timings. There is no Holi ban, and authorities are ensuring regulated sales. Private outlets in categories L1 to L35 also follow the same rules and remain open.

Online alcohol delivery is also permitted except on the officially notified dry days. Hotels with L15/15F licenses can serve alcohol to residents even during dry days.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR RESIDENTS

Delhiites planning Holi celebrations can access alcohol without interruption. There’s no special restriction on the festival day, unlike previous years when Holi was a dry day. Both walk-in and online sales function normally, making it easier for residents to enjoy the festivities responsibly.
