After it was hit with a more six-month pause, the problems have persisted for Main Roads WA’s Malcolm Street Bridge Barrier Upgrade job.

The$ 1.3 million project, which began in February 2024, has resulted in the shutdown of Malcolm Street’s right street from West Perth, which is west of St Georges Terrace for the duration.

Guard rails may be upgraded and lengthened along both sides of the bridge, but labor has slowed down due to issues with the area of services below the gate surface.

Main Streets assured the public that the job would be finished by October 2025 after WAtoday revealed the project problems in June of last year.

Some work was done on the wall next season, but since then, it has completely stopped.

According to a representative for Main Roads, the company anticipated that the project would be finished in April.

She said the initiative experienced “unanticipated page and design subtleties” as well as delays with service relocation work that have since been resolved.

Interestingly, these delays have no increased job costs because work was halted during this time and the project is still within the approved budget.

According to Main Streets, the project is anticipated to get finished by April 2026.

With the new schedule, Main Roads can start and finish the western lane railing in only two months.

The disruptions may have resulted in the project lasting longer than the$ 187 million Boorloo Bridge initiative, which took 21 months to complete despite its relatively small size and cost.
