A man has been charged with serious driving offences after allegedly travelling more than 200km/h on a major highway while drunk and affected by drugs.
Police allege the man, 47, was travelling along the Hume Hwy north of the regional NSW town of Yass about 12.30am Sunday.
Highway patrol officers allegedly detected his sedan moving at 218km/h in a 100km/h zone.
After being pulled over, the man allegedly failed roadside breath and drug tests.
“Checks revealed the 47-year-old male driver had not held a valid driver’s licence since 2009,” NSW Police said in a statement.
The man was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station, where an oral fluid test allegedly returned positive results for methamphetamine and cannabis.
The results have been sent off for secondary testing.
The man has been charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, never licensed person drive vehicle on road and drive with mid-range PCA and illicit drug.
He has been granted conditional bail and will next appear before Yass Local Court on March 26.
