Australia won the final Twenty20 World Cup team game in Pallekele on Friday by nine innings, despite both teams having previously been knocked out of the competition.
Mitchell Marsh, who was chasing a reasonable target of 105 for triumph, was in no disposition to rest and viciously dispatched Oman’s batsmen everywhere, bringing up his half-century off only 26 balls inside the first powerplay.
When Shakeel Ahmed and Vinayak Shukla had Travis Head caught and bowled off a major advantage for 32, the 38-year-old spin was so delighted that he brought out Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature objective party.
With 62 balloons to protect, Marsh equaled the T20 World Cup record for the fastest fight of a full over 100 and went on to win the game on 64 with seven limitations and four innings.
Oman, who had won without a point, paced the table with two wins and two defeats, while Australia finished fourth overall.
In 16.2 innings, Australia produced a diagnostic ball screen to defeat Oman for 104, with Adam Zampa finishing with images of 4-21.

Oman made an effort to recover, but none of their pitchers were successful in turning their starts into respectable scores. With a harsh 32 off 33 balls, Wassim Ali provided the only real resistance as wickets gradually fell at the other end.
As Oman struggled, Australia’s spinner dominated the center overs, usually misinterpreting their measures and playing down the wrong path.
Zampa added his fourth four-wicket century to T20 World Cups, while Glenn Maxwell, who caught him in the opening over, even contributed with two wickets.
