Within 24 hours of conducting a national database search on the DNA specimen, the FBI stated in a statement, results from the sleeve may have resulted in what criminal specialists refer to as a “hit.”
The FBI received the initial findings from a personal crime lab in Florida on Saturday, saying they needed “quality manage and formal confirmation” before submitting them for comparison with known DNA profiles obtained from people and crime scenes and kept in the national database.
The sleeve is one of about 16 that have been discovered by law enforcement in recent days in a wayside field about two miles from Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of US tv journalist Savannah Guthrie, who lives there.
The majority of the boots recovered by prosecutors turned out to have been dropped by nearby investigators, according to the FBI.
However, the one that was submitted for DNA study was “different and appears to match the boots” the person in a ski helmet was seen trying to turn off Nancy Guthrie’s entry cameras in the early morning hours immediately before she was abducted, according to the FBI speech.
Savannah Guthrie posted a video message on social media hours after the DNA announcement in which she urged anyone with information about her mother or location to do the right thing and said,” We still have hope.”
The main suspect investigators were looking for was the person in the video, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who was also sporting a gun in a holster and an overstuffed backpack.
Third week of search is over.
Authorities claim that Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 when her family reported her missing the following day at her home in Tucson after she had dined with her.
According to Nanos, she was extremely limited in her physical mobility and could not leave her house on her own, leading investigators to believe she had been taken against her will right away.
Since she vanished, at least two allegedly ransom notes have been made public, both of which were initially delivered to news media. However, there is no known direct communication between Guthrie’s alleged captors and her family or with authorities.
According to officials, DNA tests on Guthrie’s front porch confirmed that there were blood samples on her porch last week. She has been characterized by law enforcement and family members as being in poor health and in need of daily medication to survive. A pacemaker was also present.
The sheriff reported on Friday that DNA from her property had also been taken from her or anyone close to her, but there hasn’t been a formal announcement about any lab findings from those samples.
Savannah Guthrie, 54, co-host of the well-known NBC News morning program Today, has posted several video messages in which she asks for their mother’s return and asks for the public’s assistance in resolving the case.
In one video, they indicated that they would comply with ransom demands. The broadcast journalist directed to “whoever has her or knows where she is” in her most recent Instagram video, two weeks after her mother was reported missing, and she said:” We believe in the essential goodness of every human being, and it’s never too late.
No evidence of life has been found since the abduction, according to Nanos, who added:” There hasn’t been any proof of death either.”
Sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents searched another residence in a wealthy neighborhood less than three kilometers from her home on Friday night, according to authorities over the weekend.
A person was also questioned that night during a related traffic stop, according to the sheriff’s office, but neither incident led to any arrests.
US President Donald Trump has expressed his sympathies and support for the presumed kidnapping, which has drawn intense media coverage.
