Livigno: Four moments seems like a long time, but it feels like forever when your competitors race down the course while you are serving a four-second charges.

Olympic gold medalist Josie Baff was forced to compete in the mixed team snowboard cross last in Livigno on Sunday after her race begin was delayed by 4.16 hours as a result of partner Adam Lambert picking up a time charges.

Men begin the snowboard cross competition with a staggered start based on the men’s race’s finishing margins, while their female competitors start the race first. It was almost certain that Lambert’s Italian competitors would miss the podium when he clipped the back of their board and spun out.

Baff described the frustration of watching her competitors start four seconds before her,” Wow, four seconds is a really long time.”

” But as I walked out of the gate, I realized that I was strong and that today my starts were much better. I believe I was less enthralled and kind of returning to my usual patterns, which was great.

Baff would have become the first Australian to have won two medals at a single Winter Olympic Games with a medal of any color.

The 23-year-old is no stranger to launching on a deadlock. She had to make up a 1.46 second deficit in their quarter-final and a 0.42 second deficit once more in their semi-final.

She had also overcome her own setback to win Olympic gold two days prior, despite being sluggish.

In the semis, it really worked out. She said,” I was able to reel back that half a second very quickly.”

” So I thought, you know what?” If anything does happen, I want to be in that race and I’m going to trust that these three [other competitors ] might have some contact lower down. I was like, Wow, I’m getting closer, I could see. I’m actually getting more close.

As I turned around, I could see them leaving the turn. I believed that this might still work, and I was aware that if I had to close that gap a little more, I might get slingshots. So yeah, I was hoping for that. However, four seconds is a long time, regrettably.

The most challenging aspect of it? They might have won gold.

I believe we could have triumphed. ” I really, truly believe that we could have won that medal,” Fratton said.

” And I guess that stings a little, but it’s snowboard cross, which shows the unpredictability of the sport. And that causes no end in sight.

Lambert criticized Lorenzo Sommariva’s contact in Italy as being obviously unsatisfactory.

At the close of the course, Lambert landed on the inside of Sommariva and was clipped by the front of the Australian’s snowboard, sending him spinning out as he crossed the jump and headed toward turn six.

” Part of my strategy was to make it down the course, obviously, and not crash,” Lambert said.

I would have preferred to have been happy with fourth there, but, as I previously stated, I didn’t have any room to move left as I crossed that camel [jump].

Josie could have pulled back half a second, but I knew I had to take what I was given. She probably could have stayed up a second and a half because she’s been riding so well, but four seconds is just a little too much.

It was the same circumstance as it was for Australia’s No. Mia Clift and Jarryd Hughes form a two-person team, with Clift experiencing a 1.27 second delay in her semi-final and a 3.08 delay in the small final ( determined 5th-8th places ).

She rode incredibly well, and sadly, I couldn’t match what she was doing, according to Hughes.

She deserved much more than that, and I’m sorry I couldn’t accomplish it.
