A memorial from the 15th century that again stood outside Milan’s renowned Duomo has found a new house.
The temple’s historic institution, which oversees the conservation of the building, recently restored the hairy saint with the book statue as part of an adopt-a-statue program that was launched in 2020.
It is currently on display at the office of FNM, a Lombardy-based transportation business, behind a crystal window at Piazzale Cadorna as of last year.
The program uses donors, either business owners or individuals, to provide funding for the repair of a statue through a loan agreement that rarely permits its display outside the Duomo.
The project’s job director, Elisa Mantia, told The Associated Press,” The uniqueness of this job is that figures that would otherwise stay in our reserves are restored and brought back to their original beauty.”
” In that way, they can continue to tell the story of the Duomo yet in locations far from the statue.”
These contracts are occasionally granted for an original one-year word that can be renewed.
Following previous fundraising efforts, donors were able to offer to buy skeletons or towers in exchange for their inclusion on the Duomo’s donor register, where donors ‘ names are recorded as part of the museum’s long history of help.
Under the direction of the city’s pope, Gian Galeazzo Visconti, next king of Milan, the Duomo was constructed in cooperation with the city’s archbishop in 1386.
More than five decades after being completed, the church was constructed on the site of two already-existing basilicas. One of its iron doors wasn’t installed until 1965.
Because the Duomo’s statues were constructed over the course of centuries, the monument reads as a timetable of changing musical styles. They were carved by artists from various periods and regions.
The Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo, which manages the protection of the cathedral, has requested funding to rebuild statues that have been lost for repair or safety factors.
A 16th-century David, a description of Samson and the Lion, and a monument of Saint Matthew the Apostle have various works of art that have been included in the program sponsored by various partners.
Mantia said that her organization has selected about 30 sculptures as available for recovery, despite the fact that the number of adopted figures isn’t disclosed and not all are displayed in public places.
Each case must be approved by Italy’s ethnic identity regulators, as the procedure involves a conventional loan agreement that is subject to restoration, insurance, and transportation laws.

The granite used to create the Duomo and the figures is sourced from the Piedmont area of Italy’s Candoglia.
The exact rock has been used since the late 14th century, under the direction of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo.
The Duomo is also a representation of Milan’s history, according to Mantia.
The statue, which was built together with the city, tells the city’s complete history in its own statues and the way that it is decorated.
