The Israeli military says it has carried out strikes on multiple targets in Lebanon.

Weapons storage facilities and rocket launchers belonging to the Hezbollah militia were attacked in several areas in southern Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said early on Sunday in a statement on Telegram.

“The presence of the weapons struck constituted a violation of the ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the statement said.

The claims could not initially be independently verified. The military did not provide information on possible casualties.

As part of a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah that has been in effect since the end of November 2024, the Iranian-backed Shiite militia was to be disarmed.

A key deadline for the disarmament of Hezbollah, which the Lebanese government tasked the army with, expired at the end of December.

Hezbollah was continuing attempts to rebuild its “terror infrastructure in southern Lebanon”, the IDF said following its latest strikes.

The Israeli military has carried out strikes in Lebanon almost daily despite the ceasefire.

According to Lebanese government figures, more than 300 people have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect. The United Nations says more than 100 of them were civilians.

“The IDF will continue to operate to remove any threat to the State of Israel,” the military said.
