A multi-million dollar plan to convert the former East Perth prison into a gallery has been identified by the WA Police Force.
The eastern part of the East Perth building would be demolished, according to a proposal made by DevelopmentWA in an application filed with DevelopmentWA.
The Adelaide Terrace correctional facility was a functioning organisation that hasn’t been used since 2013.
According to the creation software, partial dismantling and adaptive reuse of the building may cost about$ 14.5 million.
The program also lists other options WAPOL has looked at, including a$ 39 million plan to keep the building occupied and undergo restoration works.
A police force has been established to run the exhibition, according to a WA Police spokesperson who informed Business News.
The museum will be half opened by March 2027, according to the director, which will resonate with the World Police and Fire Games in Perth.
The WA Police Museum in East Perth may take its place in Highgate’s current show if approved and built.
The program stated that the current gallery volunteer Historical Society service in Highgate is undersized, technologically advanced, and lacks sufficient teaching, studying, and storage facilities.
Additionally, it is unable to properly display or preserve the items and exhibits now in the possession of the Western Australia Police Force.  ,
The new exhibition will provide a dedicated public service to promote Wan Police background and history, integrating the traditional society’s collection with WAPF’s individual under the direction of a newly appointed WAPF museum curator.
The proposed exhibition would serve as a motivator for the police department’s series growth and expansion, according to the application.
The report reads,” The plan is supported by an extensive building programme of architectural repairs, including the house’s material framework, roof, and services infrastructure.”  ,
The eastern portion of the building, while in disrepair, can be repaired without breaking the bank, according to the engineering report.
