Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was snubbed from the India Test squad for England. The selectors showed trust in veteran Karun Nair ahead of Shreyas despite his terrific form of late in world cricket. Undeterred by the snub, Iyer continued his brilliant run in the Indian Premier League, hitting his 5th fifty of the season, navigating Punjab from a tricky situation on Saturday, May 24.

Playing against the Delhi Capitals in Jaipur, Punjab were put in a bit of a pickle after losing Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis early in the innings. Iyer, who walked out to bat at No. 4, stabilised the Punjab Kings innings and helped them reach a target of 200+ runs.
Iyer hit 53 runs off 34 balls before getting dismissed in the 18th over of the game. The batter was especially punishing against the spinners of Delhi Capitals, who conceded a total of 77 runs from 8 overs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday.
Iyer has been out of the Indian Test team since India’s series against England in 2024. Iyer was taken off the team due to a back injury and did not return to play another Test match later that year. This was a turbulent time for Iyer, who got dropped from the side and even lost his central contract, which was also taken away by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Since his snub, Iyer has worked hard to get back into the Indian ODI team, where he did well in the Champions Trophy. The batter has since regained his confidence and done well in the Indian Premier League. After 13 matches, Iyer has 488 runs to his name, at a strike rate of 172.44.
