In a bid to uphold professional discipline, the Kolkata police department has issued strict directives, barring all personnel under its jurisdiction from creating or sharing social media reels while in uniform or within police premises.
Senior officials have conveyed the instructions to all police stations (thanas) across the city, warning that any violation of the order will be met with disciplinary action.

A senior officer told News18, “It’s a clear violation of discipline and unbecoming of a member of a disciplined force. Such actions are not in line with the standards we are expected to maintain and cannot be tolerated.”
Recently, several videos of uniformed police personnel from various states have gone viral, drawing criticism and sparking debate. Members of the police fraternity believe these incidents, along with similar occurrences within other forces, have prompted this decisive move.

Over the past month, three police officers have already been suspended over issues related to behaviour and discipline, signalling the force’s firm stance on such matters.
According to insiders, some reels in various places inside and outside Bengal have previously caused embarrassment to the police department as a whole, reinforcing the need for such preventive measures. The Kolkata police leadership is now taking proactive steps to ensure that the image and integrity of the force remain intact.
